An Idle Mind Is A Tool Of The Devil…Not

“An idle mind is a tool of the devil” was one of the greatest misconceptions of my childhood. I’m pondering this morning on the subject of guilt, particularly on the subject of religious guilt. It was such a part of my childhood that it was the driving force behind my low-self esteem.

Even as a child my mind wondered into spiritual concepts and understanding what could not be explained by my parents religious dogma. They believed that their religion held every answer to every conceivable question, that it left “no stone unturned and no question left unanswered,” and therefore, any concept outside of their particular religion was a misconception from the devil attempting to tempt me and lead me astray.

I felt guilty for not having a testimony of our religion being the only true religion. I felt guilty for not getting up in church and telling people I believed the church to be true. I felt guilty for not believing everything I heard at church and in our religious teachings at school. I felt guilty for doubting God’s only truth. l felt guilty for allowing myself to have an idle mind that tempted me with other spiritual awareness. I felt guilty for my gifts of understanding concepts that were not taught to me by my leaders. I could not explain how I knew what I knew and felt guilty for knowing, because thinking for myself was seen as temptation. I felt so guilty for having spiritual gifts that I shut them down and tried to believe in, “the only right way.” But I never really bought into it and felt guilty for not following God’s pre-approved plan. Guilt in essence broke my heart and shut down my gifts of inspiration, all because I quieted my mind instead of keeping it busy with school and approved religious studies.

What I came to recognize a few years ago is that an idle mind is a tool for inspiration. It opens us up to higher concepts, allows the imagination to spur creation and forwards our individual and collective evolution. It is simply a matter of what we choose to tap into and focus on. I let go of guilt a long time ago and came to fully embrace the gifts of understanding that are a part of having an idle mind.

An idle mind is your greatest tool for inspiration. Quiet the chatter in your mind, allow yourself to question everything and listen for your truth to reveal itself to you.

What’s Next for The Polygamist’s Daughter?

This year has been one of the most transformational and liberating years of my life. Yes liberating, almost as liberating as leaving home so many years ago, only under very different circumstances. When I left home as a teenager it was to escape my life in search of myself and freedom from the feelings of suicide that plagued me. It was, in every sense of the word, a choice between life and death. In choosing life, I chose freedom.

I have had a truly extraordinary life as a result of trusting my own path, rather than blindly following the one that had been supposedly predestined for me.

In October of 2015 I made the decision to attend the University of Santa Monica and earn a certificate in Spiritual Psychology. It was a course designed perfectly for me and I had been hearing about it for several years. It combines two of my favorite subjects, spirituality and psychology, into one learning program created to teaching students how to resolve unresolved issues and how to facilitate the healing of memories with others.

This perfect blend of healing my own story while assisting others in healing theirs fits perfectly in alignment with the work I feel I am being tugged to do.

Are You Really Free?

WARNING: the following post might cause you to think.

On July 4th in the United States we celebrate our collective independence from physical oppression. And yet, as physically free as we may be, how many of us are really free?

How many of us are spiritually free?

Spirit for me is synonymous with energy and spiritual freedom is freedom from the energy of fear that stems from fear-based beliefs.  All of our belief systems are driven by fear and based in archaic beliefs that stem from a time before the scientific revolution and the age of enlightenment.  As we collectively evolve in our understanding of science, medicine, mechanics, education, creation and our place in the universe, our belief systems have failed to evolve to follow suit. Until our spiritual understanding evolves to catch up with our physical understanding, we can never have the peace on earth that we all say we want or the freedom from fear that we all seek.

Our present belief systems are based on understandings that were created while humanity was still in its infancy. Our mind’s, hearts and spirits are still confined to beliefs that existed from a time when we believed all creation came from the masculine and the entire universe was created to support this one infinitesimal speck of a planet.  In short, it is time for our beliefs to evolve into a higher understanding of spirit, to understand the true nature of creation and to grasp what love really is.

Love is all there really is and fear is the belief in the absence of and disconnection from love.

We have never been separate from love, aka God, except that our beliefs have made it so.  All of our great spiritual masters, right up to Einstein (who is my favorite spiritual teacher) understood that we are all one with the energy of creation and that love is the most powerful force in the universe. Spiritual freedom occurs when you no longer limit yourself to the beliefs and expectations that others have placed upon you and you fully connect to the love and light that has always existed within you. You simply need to find it within yourself.

When your spirit is free to live in the energy of love all other freedoms become secondary because you understand that you are already free.

Love and light to all of you in your search for truth and freedom.
